Sono state rese note le nomination per il 31° Annual GLAAD Media Awards, riconoscimento dedicato ai media che rappresentano in maniera corretta, accurata e inclusiva la comunità lesbica, gay, bisessuale, transgender e queer (LGBTQ) e le questioni che influenzano la loro vita nei prodotti cinematografici, televisivi ed editoriali, dedicato a quanto edito lungo tutto il 2019
La cerimonie dei GLAAD Media Awards, che finanziano il lavoro di GLAAD per facilitare l’accettazione della comunità ‘LGBTQ, si terranno a New York presso l’Hilton Midtown giovedì 19 marzo 2020 e a Los Angeles al Beverly Hilton giovedì 16 aprile 2020.
I criteri per le candidature ai GLAAD Awards
Rappresentazioni giuste, accurate e inclusive – Raffigurare la comunità LGBTQ senza ricorrere a stereotipi, affrontando i personaggi o i temi in modo equo, preciso e multidimensionale.
Audacia e originalità – Aprire nuove strade esplorando l’argomento LGBTQ in modi non tradizionali e gestire il contenuto LGBTQ in un modo nuovo e originale.
Impatto – Contribuire ad alimentare il dialogo culturale sulle questioni LGBTQ o raggiungere un pubblico che non è regolarmente esposto a immagini e problemi LGBTQ.
Qualità complessiva – Un progetto di altissima qualità aggiunge significato alle immagini e ai problemi rappresentati e attira più spettatori o lettori al materiale. Le immagini corrette, accurate e inclusive possono essere indebolite quando fanno parte di un progetto di scarsa qualità.
Curiosità sulle nomination
Considerando che GLAAD analizza solo i prodotti cinematografici o distribuiti dai servizi streaming o televisivi, la tv via cavo ha totalizzato un totale di 31 nomination, mentre i servizi di streaming che hanno ricevuto 22 nomination e i network nazionali 19.
È Netflix a fare la parte del leone con 15 nomination, seguito da HBO con 8. ABC, CBS e NBC hanno guadagnato ciascuna 4 nomination. Apple TV + e Disney + hanno ricevuto le loro prime nomination per Dickinson e High School Musical.
Spettacoli di lunga durata tra cui The Bachelor in Paradise della ABC e Are You The One? di MTV hanno ricevuto le loro prime nomination nella categoria Outstanding Reality Program.
La straordinaria categoria di programmazione per bambini e famiglie si è estesa a dieci nominati, a seguito di un aumento delle immagini LGBTQ nella programmazione televisiva per bambini e famiglie e di un impegno di GLAAD per sostenere l’inclusione in questo genere di trasmissioni. I dieci nominati vanno in onda su otto diverse reti: Cartoon Network, Disney +, The Disney Channel, Hulu, Netflix, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. e PBS. GLAAD ha introdotto questa categoria da tre edizioni.
Molte delle serie televisive nominate, inoltre, includono serie di personaggi LGBTQ di colore, tra cui: Euphoria, Killing Eve, The L Word: Generation Q, Pose, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Dear White People, One Day at a Time, Superstore, Vida e Tales of the City.
